ryan visits chicago

wrigley.jpg

It's been a long time since I updated this blog, so here goes!

I went to Chicago Monday and Tuesday to speak at Network World IT Roadmap, and to see a Cubs game with AJ in Wrigley... good fun, but I was exhausted when I got back. I'm looking very much forward to sleeping a lot this long holiday weekend... hopefully in good weather and in my backyard hammock.

The PDF version of what I presented is online here, if you're interested. It's about MLB's use of Layer-7 "application acceleration" techniques to handle the huge traffic surges we get at work, and to scale for things like all-star balloting online, MLB gameday, etc...

I'm still working on the public speaking thing! Even though I could probably karaoke in front of 5000 people, I found I was far more nervous five minutes before this speaking gig than I was five minutes before my wedding. I guess I knew there wasn't a Q/A about SSL and compression yield coming before I could have wedding cake.
