Technically, I *am* root for the home team. Weird, huh?
(I need a new pun here, huh...)

"Can I get a ryan.net email address?"

UPDATE: it's now 2018 (at the time of this update) ... and you can register all kinds of domain names. I don't give out email accounts these days. I'm not going to hand out any sort of access to my http cookies or email service path. Go register "ryan.accountant" or "ryan.duck" for your own personal brand, other ryans.

"Hi... my name is Steve Ryan... Can I buy the domain ryan.net, or purchase a POP3 mailbox from you?"

I'm not interested in selling ryan.net (unless you're prepared to offer me a truly *obscene* amount of money for it)... It's my personal domain, and it's become a pretty important part of my online professional identity.

In the past, I've not sold accounts on ryan.net, primarily because I don't need the hassle of maintaining a business relationship (money transactions, guaranteed uptime, etc.) with people all over.

What I *have* considered in the past, and would consider again, is offering the *favor* of an email forward for ryan.net email addresses/domain names (i could give you steve.ryan.net) in exchange for some *favor* from you... depends on what you're in a position to offer.

...this way, I don't have to ding anyone for a monthly/yearly/whatever payment, and people aren't beating down my door if the server goes down for a weekend, and yet I help myself pay for co-hosting costs, and do the ryans of the world a favor...

What do you do for a living, or more accurately, can you offer anything cool in exchange for a ryan.net email address?

(examples might include sports tickets or travel hookup to someplace i'd consider going, frequent flyer miles, discount off stuff if you work for BestBuy, stuff like that...)

...if you're a starving student who lives in a cardboard box, that's fine, too. Not to be all "The Godfather", or anything, but I might accept YourEternalGratitude, and hey, if you can parlay "steve.ryan.net" into a good job sometime in the future, then hook me up down the road.

UPDATE: in addition, I don't want to sell services or guarantee anything, because frankly, if some Joe Ryan came down the street and did offer me a million for the domain name, I'd probably sell, and then your email address is that guy's problem.

So, I guess the answer is "maybe" (maybe you can get an email address... i don't want to sell the whole domain unless you're a millionaire).

A lot of what i've written above is form-letter text (i've been asked before)... hope it answers your question.
