Technically, I *am* root for the home team. Weird, huh?
(I need a new pun here, huh...)

UP(cough)DATE

I'm home today, for the first sickday I can recall in a long time. I've missed work before, but that's usually in the class of "I worked a 45-hour day yesterday in the datacenter for draftday, I'm gonna sleep in" kind of thing.

Today, I genuinely have the full-blown, deep-dish, ass-kicking, F-L-U flu. I went home from work yesterday shivering like a chihuahua at about 5:30, and my temp was 103.5 when I first took it. I slept for about 3 hours, then woke up and called dad. Dad is a pharmacist. He told me the obvious: sleep, drink fluids, take Advil like you own stock in Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, Inc., and stop whining, you big baby.

While I made some mac'n'cheese (Atkins goes buh-bye when I'm sick.), the headaches started, and I genuinely started hallucinating. Well, seeing spots and wooshy, streaky things, anyway. No talking dogs or spiders on my skin yet.

I went back to bed after an episode or two (I really don't remember) of West Wing, and slept (with an interruption or two via cellphone) until 3:30pm today.

Getting online, I informed the guys on my team at work that I was walking dead (current temp: 101.7), and then checked a bunch of email.

Now I'm just kind of sitting around very still (the headaches are the worst part right now) and taking care of stuff on the computer, like finally updating my blog (you're reading it!) and reserving an SUV for our trip out west at the end of the month. Justin and I, and a friend of his are going to Seattle, picking up Maggie, and going skiing at Whistler in British Columbia.

Pictures from last weekend's ski-trip (where I'm pretty sure I picked up this flu-bug... we stayed in dorm-room facilities, and it was freezing) are finally online at http://www.ryan.net/misc/jay_peak_jan_2004/.

Oh, woe... pity me, in my wretched wretchedness!
