Saturday went with Maggie to Hoboken to visit her friend. Ate at "Schnackenburg`s Lunchonette", which ruled. Reminded me very much of both the soda fountain at my father`s Pharmacy in Iowa, and also of "Pearson`s Drugstore" lunch counter in Iowa City. My ham salad sandwich was comfort food. I didn`t get any photos of the quaintness, though, `cause i thought my expensive camera might disturb the semi-kooky homeless guy at the counter. I`ll be back there.
This is the plaque from the site of the Elysian Fields in Hoboken.
"Baseball: On June 19, 1846, the first match game of baseball was played here on the Elysian Fields between the Knickerbockers and the New Yorks. It is generally conceded that until this time, the game was not seriously regarded."
